Tim sat on the couch with his his foot propped up by some pillows. He paused in his task and looked in annoyance at his bandaged ankle. It had happen the day after Christmas, Tim had went out to his car to get a cable for his computer and slipped on a patch of ice. Luckily he didn't break it – only badly sprained it, but it still mean he was laid up for a while.
Which meant Kon and Roy had spent the rest of the holidays mothering him. Like right now, instead of being allowed to help take down the Christmas decorations he was sitting on the couch putting the pictures he'd taken the last month or so, in the appropriate photo albums. “Are you sure I can't help with anything?” he asked.
“Positive Tim,” Roy said as he put away the village to the train set. “You just sit there and relax. Don't want to see you up for anything.”
“Yeah, just think of it as a mini vacation,” Kon said as he tried to put up the garland without getting it in too many tangles – unsuccessfully.
Tim sighed and made a mental note to go through the ornaments after his ankle was better, to make sure they were put up properly. He turned back to his albums and began to organize his pictures.
They showed everything from buying the Christmas tree, Lian's school's holiday show, to Christmas and New Years. He pasted them onto the pages and then wrote the date and a brief note about the picture in the margin of the page. He passed a hand over one picture of him, Roy and Kon. They were all holding identical coffee mugs that said World's Greatest Super Hero on it. The mugs were from Lian, one of her presents to them. Another picture showed Lian tearing away the wrapping paper from some gift she had gotten. One of the last pictures was from New Years Eve. It was a group shot with everyone from Dick, Jason, Bruce to Ollie, Clark, and Dinah in it – and everyone in between. He had never imagined himself having such a large family, but there they all were smiling happily back at him. A more perfect gift he could never have hoped for.
Tim attention was drawn to the TV as a news announcement interrupted the movie that had been on. News footage of a bank robbery in downtown Metropolis filled the screen. The reporter on sight revealed the robbers were meta-humans.
Even before the man had finished his report Kon and Roy were moving, clothing was changed, weapons grabbed, and they were headed for the balcony. Tim looked after them biting his lip in frustration in not being able to join them.
“Don't even think about following us,” Roy said sternly as he pressed a kiss to Tim's forehead.
“I'm not,” Tim grumbled.
Roy's face soften into a grin, “We'll beat one up just for you,” he promised.
“And we'll bring you a cappuccino when we're done,” Kon promised as he kissed Tim's lips to keep him from biting them..
“Fine, but make it an espresso,”
“Your wish is our command,” Kon said with a quick bow and then grasped Roy's forearm and flew off toward downtown.
Tim watched them until they were out of sight and then settled to watch the TV, knowing they'd be showing up soon. A smile play at the corner of Tim's mouth and a warm feeling filled him up. The best gift he could ever had gotten was the the gift of Roy and Kon's love and the family that they had.
